Summary

I do a deep dive on the work of scientist, psychoanalyst, Marxist, and criminal, Wilhelm Reich... both on my own and with Dr. James Strick. It's a whole episode examining Reich's theories and experiments, as part of my series of episodes on how science intersects with our daily lives!

Hi, this is Against Everyone with Connor Habebeb.

0:03.7

Friends, this is the fourth episode in a series of episodes on science and how science intersects with our lives in surprising ways.

0:12.6

Across these episodes, we'll be considering the healing and connective powers of the void of space,

0:19.4

terrifying encounters with predators, the development of the

0:22.2

concept of nature, reflections on our own animalistic violence, the truth and complications

0:27.5

of the scientific method itself, and the ways in which we connect at the tiniest layers of existence.

podcast, which is one of my very favorite podcasts, Wes Larson, about our fascination with

animal attacks on humans. Last episode, episode 262, I talked with the culture and nature philosopher Erica Berry about what wolves can teach us about being human.

On this episode, which is one from the archives, sort of, you'll see what I mean.

1:24.6

I focus on the scientist, outsider political theorist,

1:28.7

psychoanalysts, and criminal, Wilhelm Reich. Reich was banished from both psychoanalytic and

1:34.6

Marxist circles, even though he made huge contributions to both. He was a scientist who was considered

1:40.2

unscientific, yet threatening enough to have his papers seized by the U.S. government

1:45.6

and then be imprisoned in a strange, collaborative effort between Stalinists and capitalists.

1:52.0

He was a true scientific rebel and quite dangerous in his way for being a rebel.

1:58.7

This episode combines a conversation I had with Dr. James Strick on

2:02.1

episode 59, and also an informal episode I did as a part of a series I used to do called Against
