by talking about the French psychoanalyst and philosopher Jacques Lacan.

That's a really wordy fucking sentence.

But Lacan had this really great theory about psychosis, specifically paranoid schizophrenia.

And basically, he said, like, if you imagine the classic paranoid schizophrenic,

like if you've seen that picture of Charlie Day from,

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia with a bulletin board, and all the photos and maps

pinned to it and these lines of yarn from one picture to another. And what LaConne said at one point was, I think, pretty clever. He said,

look, we actually all think like that. The only difference between us and that is that the

paranoid schizophrenic has that on the surface. But all of us are drawing these lines with yarn

from one picture to another that actually doesn't

really make sense. It's not connected except through our frantic, fucked up hair, sweaty

activity.

So the thing that's interesting to me,

beyond just that picture, is why do we, as individuals,

as individuals, draw one line from one picture to another.

Like, if I say the word cat to you, why do you imagine a cat, first of all,

but why do you imagine,

so first of all, why do you even imagine the thing that I say,
