I'd like to welcome everybody today's presentation on adverse childhood experiences and trauma and how it impacts the person throughout their lifespan.

In this presentation, we're going to explore the relationship between adverse

childhood experiences, henceforth and forevermore referred to as ACEs and trauma. We'll identify the

impact of ACEs and traumatic injury on mental, physical, and interpersonal health in adults.

So we're looking at the lifespan perspective and explore risk factors for ACEs and subsequent

prevention and intervention measure.

And I am going to challenge you to think when we get down to prevention and intervention

and even the risk factors, think about ways that you can modify your current work environment

or you can work with agencies within your community in order to make services more available,

to help create more preventative factors and buffer against those risk factors.

So adverse childhood experiences or ACEs are stressful or traumatic events that children

experience before age 18 years. Now, why before age 18 years? Well, that is the age of majority.
