Summary

For the second episode of the Fearless ‘Summer Encore’ series, I wanted to feature one of my favorite guests who I get to serve with while I’m in Alaska with Samaritan’s Purse. “Nerves of steel.” That’s how many people described Tammie Jo Shults in 2018 after she landed a Southwest Airlines plane that had lost an engine. But even before that fateful day, Tammie Jo had a fearless faith that took her from a farm in Texas to being one of the US Navy’s first female fighter jet pilots....

0:00.0	Welcome back to another episode of Fearless. If you've been listening to my podcast, you may already know that my family and I spend each summer serving with Samaritan's purse up in Alaska through their Operation Heal Our Patriots Ministry.
0:14.0	And that's where I am right now.
0:16.2	People have often asked me, why do we go to Alaska every summer?
0:20.8	And for me, personally, it's a time that I get to serve in a different capacity in the ministry.
0:28.0	I don't have to be in front of a camera.
0:30.0	I don't have to be producing a podcast, but I get to serve the beneficiary. I get to serve the beneficiary.
0:33.7	I get to help make beds or clean laundry.
0:37.0	I get to work around our volunteers.
0:39.3	Sometimes I'm a barista and I get to make coffee and to serve coffee to them.
0:44.3	Often I'm a fishing guide, yes, believe or not.
0:47.5	I love to fish.
0:48.6	It's one of my greatest passions and loves, and I love going out with our couples. Many of them have never been on a
0:53.8	honeymoon because they got married and then deployed or instead of a husband and
0:57.2	wife they've really taken on the role as a caretaker and a patient.
1:00.2	There's so much that they struggle with but when they get to go out to Alaska and they get to go fish, many are fishing for the very first time,
1:07.0	and I get to help them catch a fish and to teach them how to hold it and how to tie a hook and all that stuff.
1:12.0	I just love it. I get to serve
1:14.0	the ministry in a different capacity that I never get to do the rest of the year and my children
1:18.3	get to be a part of that. And I love it. But last year we also began something new and welcoming not just
1:26.6	military couples but we dedicated a few weeks to law enforcement couples with
1:31.6	the Billy Graham Rapid Response team and I know it can get
1:34.8	confusing Samarin's purse versus the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
