Hello again and welcome back to Kids Bible Stories. Today is day 13 in our Advent series.

Today's story is called Special Gifts and this comes from Matthew chapter 2 verse 11.

Okay listeners, in today's Advent reading, we are talking about gifts, Christmas gifts,

one of my favorite parts of Christmas. I love it. I love giving gifts and receiving gifts

and speaking of gifts, what do you want for Christmas, Jess? I don't know. How about a shirt

or maybe a new microphone for this podcast? Oh, nice. That's not a bad idea. Hey, do you

remember what gifts the wise men brought to Jesus when he was born? I think I do, but why

don't you remind me just in case? Can do. The Bible says in Matthew 2. On coming to the house,

they saw the child was with his mother and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened

their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and murder. Pretty cool, right?

Yeah, it is interesting gifts too. I wonder why they brought him gold and frankincense and what was

that last one? Murder. And I'm glad you asked. There's actually debate about what these gifts mean

and potential reasons why they were given. Some people believe that they brought these three gifts

because those were the normal items someone might present to a royal king back in the ancient world.

And some scholars who have searched and read lots of books believe those three gifts were chosen

to show things about who Jesus is. Gold representing his kingship, frankincense reminding us that

Jesus is divine, the Son of God, and murder predicting his death. Wow, that's really interesting.

And to think this year, I was just going to give you a coffee mug. No, that's perfect, Jess.
