Summary

The Public Audit Committee have published their report on Adult Mental Health in Scotland.  The Committee heard compelling evidence that the demand for mental health care is continuing to rise, with the Covid-19 pandemic and cost-of-living crisis compounding the issues faced by an adult mental health system already under significant strain.  In this podcast, Convener Richard Leonard MSP travelled to Chris's House, a suicidal crisis centre in Wishaw, to discuss the report's findings with Anne Rowan, founder of Chris's House, and Dr Pavan Srireddy, Vice Chair, Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland. Together they discussed issues including the increasing demand for services, pressures on staff, how outcomes are measured and what needs to happen next to ensure people receive the help they need. you, Pavan, was the pressure which is now on adult mental health services. Could you describe

1:07.7

from your perspective what that pressure looks like and where it's come from?

1:12.6

I think what we've been seeing on the ground in a clinical setting is a relentless increase in demand.

1:22.6

That's been ongoing even before the pandemic, but in some ways it's almost been supercharged by the

1:29.1

pandemic. And that increase in demand and need extends across almost every part of the mental
