They invest in mutual funds and then they get this big surprise. And it usually happens, the worst thing of all, you get this

These are actively managed mutual funds.

So inside of the fund, the manager is buying and selling securities.

And these are gains that he's making or she's making inside the security.

Well, apparently, there's a lot of trading going on at the Delaware Ivy International Small Cap Fund, IVJX, because year-to-date, it's down 27.

By the way, that's a pretty hefty loss in a year where the S&P is down 16 and an all equity, 100% global portfolio is down 11.
