Welcome to Patrick Boyle on finance. Today's episode is an interview with an old friend of

mine Adam Robinson. Adam has possibly had the most interesting career of anyone I know.

He was a teenage chess prodigy who trained with Bobby Fisher as Fisher prepared to play

Boris Spaskey for the 1972 World Championship in what has gone on to be known as the

match of the century.

He later got degrees from Oxford University and U.Pen-Warton.

He cracked the SAT and other standardized tests, launching the Princeton Review Company, which

he later sold.

Adam was an AI pioneer, a quantitative trader.

He and I worked together in the early 2000s.

He is a New York Times best-selling author and an all-around

master of strategy. His company, Robinson Global Strategies, provides macro research to some of the

world's most successful hedge funds. Adam is hugely respected by everyone I know, and I was

fortunate to get a pre-publication copy of his book, How Not to

Be Stupid. He didn't ask me to endorse it, one of his other friends, some guy named Warren

Buffett, says that it's loaded with good ideas and appropriate warnings. Well, this episode

is a bit longer than normal, I'm sure that you'll find Adam as fascinating

as I do.
