The Crowded House Church originated in 2000 in Sheffield, England.

It was founded by Steve Timis and Tim Chester.

In the years that followed, through planned church planting,

the crowded house would grow into a network of churches.

While the churches were said to be led by a group of elders,

it was clear that Steve was in charge.

Sometime in 2012 or 2013, the crowded house would join Acts 29.

Acts 29 is a global church planning organization that was founded in 1998 by Mark Driscoll

and Dave Nicholas.

Steve Timis was quickly named the European director for Acts 29, and later in 2013, he would take on the CEO role.

Steve Timis would maintain the CEO role of Acts 29, as well as his eldership and leadership responsibilities in the crowded house until 2020.

On February 3rd of 2020, Matt Chandler, who has been the president of Acts 29 since 2012,

and is also the lead pastor of the Village Church, which is a part of the Acts 29 network,

abruptly announced that Steve Timis was being transitioned out of his CEO role of Acts 29.

In the announcement, Matt praised Steve for his leadership and helping grow the

Acts 29 network during his tenure. Steve was going to be sent on a sabbatical so that he could

rest and recover. The very next day, Matt Chandler released an update to the announcement on

Steve's departure. Now, Acts 29 said that two weeks prior, the network board was made aware of some

accusations of abusive leadership by Steve Timis.

After an internal investigation, the board found evidence that he should be transitioned

out of his CEO role immediately.
