Welcome to Searchlight, a survey through Scripture with Pastor John Corson.

It is our desire to bring you a systematic study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, book by book.

In our study through the Book of Acts, we have come to an interesting passage which helps explain how God

uses certain people in ministry. We are looking at Acts chapter 18, and we left off our last study

being introduced to a man named Apollos. Let's get right to our study as we learn some fascinating

things about men and ministry and movements of God.

Here now is Pastor John. A certain Jew, verse 24, named Apollos, born at Alexandria, was an eloquent man

and mighty in the scriptures, and he came to Ephesus.

Alexandria was the second largest city in the Roman Empire.

One third of the city was Jewish.

It was a city of intellectual richness. In fact, recent excavations of the library there

uncovered a library of 700,000 volumes. So they were a learned community. And Apollos was one who came from there, and now he's at Ephesus, a man who

is mighty in the scriptures, eloquent in speech, and this man, verse 25, was instructed in the way of the

Lord, and being fervent in spirit, so not just intellectually astute, but also passionate of heart, that is a winning combination.

A lot of times you have guys that are intellectually astute, but they're like porcupines, many fine points, but impossible to touch.
