Kumail Nanjani spent years doing stand-up and acting in comedic roles

before he tackled Hulu's new series, Welcome to Chippendales.

This one is a dark tale, but Nanjani says acting in it was a breath of fresh air.

Stand-up is competitive, because even if you're doing a show with all your friends,

you want to be better than all of them.

You want to kill the hardest, crush the hardest.

Look at how violent the terms are that we use.

Whereas here, I really felt like all these actors were there to make each other better.

In the first of our two-part conversation, Nanjani talks about getting into non-cometic acting,

executive producing welcome to Chippendales with his wife, Emily Gordon,

and the many gifts of working on a limited series.

So, I was having a pleasant dinner at a friend's house Sunday night when the news that Bob Chapic was out.

Bob Iger was returning as the CEO of Disney, which shocked me, caused me to leave the dinner early, and shocked the town.

Do you think you were shocked? So I'll tell you a funny story. I saw a journalist that we both know had tweeted the press release, and I texted this journalist saying, hey, man, I think your Twitter's

been hacked.

Because I didn't believe it.

I didn't think it would go down that way.

I thought the whole thing was fake, but I soon realized it was not fake.
