Welcome to Had a Money. I'm Joel. And I am Matt. And today we're discussing achieving financial independence in the military with Doug Nordman.

Yeah, Joel, our guest today, Doug Nordman, he starts every morning by checking the surf forecast because he needs to see how he's going to spend the day.

That's because he and his wife live on the island of Oahu, which is a surfers paradise. I know that because I've only seen the pictures of them.

Years before that though, he was enlisted in the military and had a career in the Navy as a summer reener. And now he writes about money over at the military guide dot com. And that's the dash military dash guide through standard practices like budgeting and investing additional money from pay raises towards retirement.

Doug has been able to become financially independent. We've never had a member of the armed forces on the show before. So we're also excited to hear some of the unique money challenges and the advantages that members of the military experience.
