Summary

This week, we finally get to talk about our August Book Club Pick, Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé! This psychological thriller is the best YA book we've read this year and will definitely keep you guessing (and reading!). Ace of Spades follows two senior students at an elite prep school, Devon and Chiamaka, who are getting targeted as the subject of anonymous text blasts to the whole school revealing their dark secrets.

If you have not read this book yet, we highly recommend you read it before you listen to this episode to avoid spoilers!

I'm Becca Freeman and I'm Grace Atlet and today's book club, I'm very excited to talk

0:25.5

about this book. I just, I didn't reread it, I relistened to it and I'm so excited. I feel like

0:32.9

this is probably one of my favorite books we've had for a book club in a while. I really enjoyed it.

0:37.7

Wow, no shame to the other books, huh? No, no, I like the other books, but you know me, I like some

0:43.5

murder or like this wasn't murdery, but it was like a thriller and it felt like gossip girls,

0:48.8

so I liked that. I just felt like there was just so much to love about this one. Well, before we

0:54.3

get into the episode, this episode is sponsored by Knight, the makers of our all-time favorite pillow.

0:59.6

So we'll tell you more about them later in the episode, but Knight is retiring our favorite face mask,

1:04.9

and this would be sad news, except now they're 50% off and you can use our code,

1:10.7

knightbop, to get an extra 20% off. So before we get into book club, should we have some ketchup?

1:18.8

ketchup. Do you want some fries with that? Actually, that sounds great. I know, fries sound great.

1:25.6

We had really good friends fries last night. That's just now I'm getting hungry. How are you? What's

1:31.5

your high? I'm good. My high is just that I'm enjoying having a calm schedule. I've had a calm

1:37.4

schedule all summer and I'm like, I'm settled into it. I'm not stressing about lack of work,

1:44.9

like I'm just enjoying it. It's very ironic that I'm saying this today. So I'm getting into a good

1:52.4

groove with writing my book. It's ironic because today I've been avoiding writing it all day,

1:57.9

but on the whole in August, I'm on track to have more writing days that I've had in any other

2:04.0

month. And I feel like I have a slow and steady, consistent groove going. It's going. So I'm proud of that.

2:12.6

Right. Yeah. On a micro level today, I'm not doing excellent with that. But when I wrote this

2:19.6

online yesterday, I felt a lot better about this. Okay. What about you? What's your high? My

2:25.2

high was I was just in LA. It was a really good trip. We had the most amazing little lunch on the

2:30.4

Malibu pier. It was just like, there's this place. It's a few living California. You know this,
