One of the most successful moral movements of our time has been the civil rights movement in the United States in the 60s. It remains, I believe, a kind of collective memory where

there was successful moral persuasion on a mass scale where a large segment of the population was persuaded that, in fact, segregation is an injustice,

and desegregation and integration is the path towards a more just society.

Because of the success of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, a group of activists in the 1970s began to think of those strategies a way to persuade, we could say, the population to accept a homosexual lifestyle as a legitimate, morally acceptable, and even more than good way of life.

In order to persuade the population to do so, these activists strategized. The way to proceed is first to create an analogy

in the minds of the population at large

between heterosexual relationships and homosexual relationships,

and then on the basis of that analogy, or comparability, perceived

comparability, argue that the class of homosexual persons has been unjustly discriminated against

and is deserving of equal rights and equal treatment under the law in a manner similar to desegregation and integration in the 1960s.
