0:06.4	specific aspects of academia for several decades now I've been a professor since
0:10.9	1994 and I've had the opportunity over now nearly three decades
0:15.6	to see both the wonderful elements of academia but also some things that can certainly
0:21.5	be improved.
0:23.1	And of course as many of you know in the parasitic mind I discussed the idea pathogens that were
0:28.5	spawned on university campuses originally and subsequently were promulgated to every nook and cranny of society.
0:35.5	But I've also, in various settings, discussed other problems within academia, problems beyond just the wokeness that we are now all familiar with.
0:50.0	So what I thought I would do today is discuss some of these problems.
0:54.0	Incidentally, I'll be discussing some of these issues in my forthcoming book
0:58.0	when I talk about intellectual variety seeking in one of the chapters.
1:04.6	But in any case, I just put together a quick list which I'll refer to here.
1:09.0	So these are some of the issues.

1:11.8	Maybe at some point I'll put together, you know, a definitive. of the
1:13.7	definitive sort of exhaustive full list of the various distinct problems
1:19.3	within academia but I thought I would just share with you a few of the important problems again beyond
1:26.9	the idea of pathogens that I discuss in the parasitic mind.
1:29.5	So the first one that I wrote here is the nature of academic bureaucracies.
1:36.7	I did a sad truth on this issue a I think a couple of years ago, but it's worth repeating.
