Hey there it's Antrice and welcome to the savvy painter podcast. Rebecca

Kroll is my guest today. Rebecca creates luscious abstract paintings which are

inspired by her travels and memories of places she's been.

In this episode Rebecca and I talk about working with cold wax and how playing with that

medium encouraged her to switch from representational to abstract painting.

That leads us into the discussion of the discomfort that artists feel sometimes when they are transitioning

from a style they are known for into something that is completely

new.

Because I know artists do have lives outside of the studio, I asked Rebecca to share what it was like when she and her

husband started their family. She talks candidly about her challenges with raising

her sons while keeping up with her painting. I really appreciate Rebecca's curiosity and love of

creating, although she might be most known for her cold wax paintings, she

also makes monoprinz and she's learning about carborundum

painting a technique I have to admit I was completely unfamiliar with so I asked her

all about it. We dig into a process of painting and how she can see of a body of work that she might create after experiencing a place through her travels.

Rebecca is currently in the middle of a crowdsourcing campaign for cold wax medium, techniques, concepts, and conversations, a book she co-authored with artist Jerry McLachlan.

The fundraising campaign reached its goal quickly, which I can tell

you is not a small feat. And they still have a few weeks to go. The campaign ends on August 17th, 2016. I just want to mention that in

questions about her campaign. That's a topic I love to talk about because I had so much fun when I did my

Kickstarter campaign for a painting project I did a few years ago. Now before we
