Welcome back to the vacation Bible school podcast, the internet's only Bible podcast. We were told to say that. I am your youth pastor, Jason Kirk, joined by, I believe, the title the internet has decided on you, Emily, is interim pastor. Thank you for having me yet again.

Interim pastor, Emily Kirk, once again, pinnacle of humility. This podcast is an attempt to separate

the inherited, handed down lessons that we have about the Bible and look at it in a new and fresh

light. Let's go back and see if it squares with the stuff we were handed down

in church as kids. It is not an attempt to denigrate faith. It is not an attempt to draw anyone

toward faith. We're just exploring what's already there. Today, in episode three, we will be

discussing the story of the patriarchs. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the traditional lineage. Let's

not forget about Ishmael, Abraham's other son. We will talk about the way the Abraham story splits into three different faiths. We'll talk about that in a little bit with a couple of guests, an interfaith council, so to speak. First, let's talk about Abraham. So, Emily, the story of Abraham, what do you remember? Father Abraham, have many sons.

Yeah, that's always the first thing that comes to mind when I hear about Abraham. So I learned... remember Father Abraham had many sons. Many sons.

So I learned a lot, obviously, growing up.

The main lesson we were taught about Abraham beyond like the very basic biography is there's this verse way later on in Hebrews when Paul or whoever decides that the lesson of Abraham is have faith.

Pointing back at the story of Abraham, this guy who just trusts God, follows God around, does whatever God wants.

Hey, hooray, it works.

Faith was always a very challenging thing because I struggled to have a whole lot of it and I always felt like I

didn't have enough of it and as a kid growing up in the church I learned to hate

myself because I did not have enough faith I am failing some people have it I

don't what a failure I am I was a fake it till you make it Christian and I faked it

really really really hard sort of the lesson was blind faith. Pick the right deity,

bet all you have on that deity, and hope you pick the right deity, and you get to luck into heaven.
