Summary

Mike and Jay start the show by addressing listener comments, starting with a criticism of their recent discussion of reproductive rights, which several listeners said was sorely lacking in nuance. They also get into the extent to which they follow world politics, President Trump's racism, and podcasts they recommend (well, podcasts Mike recommends - Jay's pretty much a one podcast guy). After that is Mike's recent interview with conservative radio and podcast host Todd Feinberg, in which Mike explains how he went from a far right, Republican-voting, Heritage Foundation intern to the centrist liberal he is today. **Show Links:** - [The Weeds](http://bit.ly/2Bb5MJg) - [The Ezra Klein Show](http://bit.ly/2Bb5QJ0) - [Left, Right, and Center](http://kcrw.co/2Bce3g9) - [Pantsuit Politics](http://bit.ly/2BcwVvw) - [NPR's Politics Podcast](http://n.pr/2Be9v9f) - [Todd Feinberg on WTIC NewsTalk 1080](http://cbsloc.al/2BcZDMU) - [Harvard Lunch Club podcast](http://bit.ly/2BcZlFy) - [Mike Rowe's Life Advice](http://bit.ly/2Bd4zkI) - [538's Gerrymandering Project](http://53eig.ht/2BcX5hG) - [Scott Adams on cognitive bias and Trump](http://on.wsj.com/2BamWHb) (WSJ - paywall) **Today's show is sponsored by DaVinci.** Go to [Davinciwork.com/TPG](http://www.davinciwork.com/TPG) and, for a limited time, get 50% off your first purchase. **Listener support helps make The Politics Guys possible.** If you’re interested in supporting the show, go to [politicsguys.com](http://www.politicsguys.com) and click on the Patreon or PayPal link.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-politics-guys/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to the politics guys. I'm Michael Baranowski, a political scientist at Northern Kentucky University.

0:31.3

All right, so, Jay, you know, it's been a little while since we've done some listener mail, taking listener comments.

0:34.1

So I thought we would do that today.

0:37.0

And so if you're ready to get started, we will just, let's start right up.

0:37.6

Let's hear from the people. All right. So, let's see here. In response to our discussion of

0:42.8

women's reproductive rights in the wake of the women's march, Allie made this comment on our Twitter

0:49.2

feed. She said, I like politics, guys, but I think it's poor to listen to two men talk about abortion in such an unn nuanced and traditional way.

0:59.4

If you don't have a woman on to talk about it, at least quote a couple of them.

1:03.3

Your views were tired and uninspiring.

1:06.4

You have the responsibility to do better.

1:10.6

So, yeah, well, you know, then, you know, not everyone's going to say, you guys are awesome

1:15.1

and everything you do is wonderful.

1:16.5

But I understand, I think, where Allie's coming from, and there were, I wanted to feature

1:22.2

this comment, because there were a number of listeners who had similar things to say. And I think,

1:30.4

and my response on Twitter was in part, I assume they were talking maybe more about your

1:35.2

views than mine, but even on my side of things, you know, I agreed with Allie in part. I didn't

1:41.9

get into a lot of nuance, and I kind of painted with

1:45.2

broad strokes. And in a part, I explained, and I think this is not a justification, but it's sort of

1:51.6

just kind of how things are in that, you know, we did, I think, that week four stories in 40-something

1:58.1

minutes. And so we didn't really have the time to go into a lot of nuance and detail.

2:03.4

And certainly there are a lot of, there is a lot of nuance.

2:06.0

There is a lot of detail.
