| 0:00.0 | Good morning. Welcome to Axios today. It's Thursday May 5th. I'm Nyla Boudou. Here's what we're |
| 0:09.7 | covering today. Interest rates are going up. Plus a new law that could help close the gender |
| 0:15.6 | pay gap. But first, today's one big thing. Abortion providers prepare for a world without |
| 0:21.6 | Roe V-Wade. Abortion clinics, especially in red states, are bracing for the impact of a likely |
| 0:32.9 | Roe V-Wade reversal. And as Axios' Oriana Gonzalez reports, many clinics fear their abortion |
| 0:38.8 | providers will leave to protect themselves. Oriana's with me for more. Hi, Oriana. Hi, Nyla. |
| 0:45.7 | We know that if Roe is overturned, that means abortion is no longer federally protected. |
| 0:51.5 | So where would abortion providers immediately be violating the law by performing abortions? |

| 1:22.6 | in southern states. What are providers and staff at clinics in some of these states telling you? |
| 1:28.4 | What some abortion clinics have told me is that they fear that the few providers that they have |
| 1:36.1 | working in these clinics might have to resort to leaving these states and moving to blue states. |
| 1:42.5 | So consider California, New York, New Jersey, et cetera, all states that have codified the |
| 1:47.7 | right to an abortion that they would move there in order to be able to provide reproductive care |
| 1:55.2 | without being afraid of prosecution. Haven't we already though seen providers leaving |
| 2:01.1 | red states because of tightening abortion restrictions? Yeah, the difference is, though, |
| 2:06.8 | there are currently no abortion bands that specifically say that abortion is illegal. |
| 2:12.3 | So if the Supreme Court overturns where we wade, then what abortion clinics are expecting |
| 2:17.7 | is that there's going to be an even bigger difference between blue states and red states. |
