So what is on your mind today?

You want to talk about Brittany Spears posing naked?

What's that all about?

Well, you know, I'm always concerned when one narrative, a simple

narrative replaces the other. So the simple narrative with Britney Spears last summer, you might

recall, was that she was being held hostage by her parents in this conservatorship that had lasted

for 13 years. To go back, she had a mental breakdown back in 2008. She was put in a kind of psychiatric

cold for a little while. And then for years after that, her parents and a series of lawyers

and financial people ran her life. A lot of these people on Instagram started saying that she was

being held against her will. She kind of picked up the mantle herself and thought,

hey, maybe I am. Anyway, very dramatic hearings. She gets out of it. She kind of picked up the mantle herself and thought, hey, maybe I am.

guy, was she ready to live on her own? And perhaps taking nudie selfies on the beach on vacation is not exactly something.

You're not. But I just worry that the simple notion that she was being held hostage and now she's

free and emancipated and can do what she wants is just not that simple. And I fear that if you read
