Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the State Department of Public Safety to arrest Democrats,

who didn't show up for the special legislative session this afternoon to vote on a new congressional map.

That's after remaining state lawmakers passed a motion to allow the Speaker to issue civil

arrest warrants.

He equated their absence to a, quote, abandonment or forfeiture of an elected state

office.

Democrats argue the map would suppress the votes of people of color and unfairly helped Republicans

in next year's midterms.

So in a bit to block the vote, some of them left the state yesterday.
