I want to start by reading a passage from 2 Timothy 3 verses 1 to 5.

But mark this, there will be terrible times in the last days.

People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient

to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control,

brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceded, lovers of pleasure, rather

than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power.

And Paul ends this section with these stark and frank words, have nothing to do with

them.

Sounds terribly familiar, doesn't it?

That description of what it was going to be like in Timothy's day, if it was bad then,

I think we would all agree that it's far worse now.

And you and I, who call ourselves Christians, are meant to be instruments of God's peace

in the midst of this kind of a world.

We live in a fallen world, we live in a broken world, and we are ourselves sinners saved

only by grace.

There dwells in none of us any good thing, but Jesus Christ and His mercy and His love
