The Jets move on from two of their biggest name veterans.

It's not a surprise that the team released Aaron Rogers and C.J. Mosley on Wednesday,

0:10.7

but these were essential moves for the team to secure a better future,

0:14.3

even if these are big names with big reputations.

They signed four players, including one who could signify some sort of major shakeup on the

1:03.0

offensive line. We'll get to that in a bit. But first, we'll start by talking about two of the

1:07.9

biggest names on the roster who were officially released on Wednesday,

1:11.4

though they are Aaron Rogers and CJ Mosley.

1:13.7

And nobody should be surprised by this.

1:16.0

The Jets announced that they were going to cut Rogers weeks ago.

1:19.2

So this was really just a bookkeeping thing that they kept him on the roster until Wednesday.

And the Reading was on the wall for Mosley since the team signed Jamie and Sherwood to an extension or to a new contract before the start of the legal tampering period. But these moves were essential. I think first of all, there's a lot of symbolism, but there are also tangible reasons the Jets moved on from these players. You know, when you're talking about symbolism, there's a lot there with Aaron Rogers. There was a suggestion out there from some quarters of the fan base that just should bring

1:51.3

But it's very difficult to do that with a player with Aaron Rogers' track record because

1:55.5

Aaron Rogers has become accustomed to being the face of whatever franchise he's on.

1:58.9

He was the face of the Green Bay Packers for pretty much his entire time there as the starting quarterback from 2008 on after the Packers moved on from Brett Fav. And I don't need to tell you if you're a Jets fan how much he's been at the center of the team's plans over the last two seasons. I mean, the Jets pretty much did everything he wanted. When you talk about the coaches he hired, they hired on the offensive side of the ball. We talk about the receivers they brought in, Randall Cobb, Alan Lazard, Devante Adams. And I think it would have been very difficult to bring Rogers back in a situation where he does, he's not familiar with the play caller. They're not running his preferred system. Do you bring back Devante Adams at an inordinate

inordinately large cap number? Would you bring back Alan Lazard who for some reason still

2:38.3

remains on the team? It would have been very difficult to do. And beyond that, Rogers would
