The former Texas police officer convicted of manslaughter in the 2019 killing of Atatiana Jefferson will spend 11 years, 10 months, and 12 days in prison. The family attorney, Lee Merritt, will be here to tell us how the family feels about his conviction and sentence.
A recent Nielsen study proves the lack of authentic representation directly impacts how Black communities spend their money. Homicide is a leading cause of death for children here in the U.S. and has increased on average by 4.3% each year for nearly a decade. The rate of homicides for black children increased four times that in two years. I'll break down those numbers.
More than 30 years ago, they were wrongfully convicted of raping a white woman in Central Park. Monday, they were honored with an entrance to the park named the "Gate of the Exonerated." Three of the five will join me tonight.
