We're closing in on perhaps one of the more underrated high Hey, welcome to another Tuesdays with Trey.

We're closing in on perhaps one of the more underrated holidays, which is New Year's Day.

It's a perfect time to reflect on what has been and hold to the promise of what is yet to come.

And there will be questions and challenges and opportunities and all of that is good.

It means we're alive and we're curious and we're seeking wisdom.

Midterm elections are coming obviously, but there will be other actions in Congress and the executive branch.

But it's actually not all about politics.

The FIFA World Cup is coming to the U.S.

And those are just some of the things we know.

It's an exciting time to be alive.

Before we turn the page and embark on 2026, I want to take a moment to revisit some of the conversations that stood out and helped frame where we are now.

Because understanding the past and how we got to where we are will no doubt help us navigate the future.

We'll start with my friend, former Speaker of the House, Mr. Kevin McCarthy, who I spoke with at the beginning of the year, as President Trump first returned back to the White House.

You have a unique perspective. No one can see around corners better than you can.

First 100 days, what should those of us who were never speaker of the house, never leader, never whip, what should we be looking for?

What will be kind of the first test of whether or not this house is going to get on board with his agenda or kind of kill the mandate that President Trump got in

November.

Okay, March 14th, you got government funding, you got to do a debt ceiling, and you got disaster

in California.

You got to get those done before the others, a budget.
