The Sunday after the shooting, Covenant Church pastor Reverend Billy Barnes preached on

the account at the end of Luke's Gospel, when Jesus joined the disciples on the road

to Emmaus.

Rappling with the loss of their Savior and the confusion over this empty tomb, they're

met by Jesus, but they don't recognize him.

We'd hoped he was the one to redeem Israel, they say.

While Jesus met them there and their grief and confusion, at the end of the road, when

he breaks bread with them, their eyes are open, and they realize who's been with them
