One trial my American listeners might not heard much about, but it does

involve an American, 26-year-old Joshua Michaels. And it also involves a Chinese national.

Now, the two were a couple, kind of on again, off again, and one of them ended up dead at a flat

in Manor Park. That's in southeast London. Okay, Joshua was

born and raised in Bloomingdale, Illinois. That's a Chicago suburb filled with just middle-class

homes and supportive families. Joshua was described as the, quote, chill dude, who had so much

going for him. He had graduated with a bachelor's in cinematography

and filmmaking at DePaul University, and then he moved to London to attend film school at

Goldsmiths. Joshua wasn't violent. He didn't even have any sort of a record. And he had a pretty

steady support system. His father, David, is vice president of sales at the French-owned lighting company, LeGrand, or LeGrand.

And his mother, Christine, is the communications manager of energy firm GTI.

And prior to that, she ran her own design company.
