Summary

Two IRA bombs were detonated in Hyde Park and Regent's Park in London on 20th July 1982. They left 11 military personnel dead, and injured around 50 people. Seven horses were also killed as the Hyde Park bomb was detonated during the Changing of the Guard procession. Karen Gregor has been speaking to former Army vet, Paddy Davison, who was called to the scene.

Today I'm taking you back to 1982 when two bombs were

detonated in Hyde Park and Regents Park in London. 11 military personnel

were killed and around 50 people were injured. The explosion occurred as a troop of the household cavalry were on their way from barracks in Knightsbridge

to Horse Guards Parade half a mile away.

They gone barely 200 yards when a parked car exploded immediately by the side of them.

And as the smoke and debris cleared, the horror of what had happened became apparent.

Seven horses also died in the explosions, and the story we're telling is about a horse vet,

I think it probably was the worst day of my life.

A car bomb went off in Hyde Park shortly before 11 o'clock this morning as a troop of

Police are now investigating suspicions that there may be bombs and two other cars parked not far away.
