| 0:00.0 | Thank you. I think it's safe to say that most people in our world fear death. |
| 0:31.0 | But did you know that the Bible teaches death is actually an entrance into life? |
| 0:36.8 | So how can that be true? |
| 0:39.1 | Alistairbeg explores the answer today on Truth for Life. |
| 0:42.2 | We're studying in 2 Timothy chapter 2, looking at verses 11 through 13. |
| 0:52.8 | Now, those of us who've been following along know that this second chapter of 2 Timothy |
| 0:57.5 | began with Paul reassuring Timothy of the resources that were his. That's the significance of the |
| 1:03.9 | phrase, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus. The resources then make possible the fulfillment of his responsibility, and particularly |
| 1:14.8 | to make sure that he entrusts to faithful men this message that God had given to Paul, Paul |
| 1:22.8 | had given to Timothy. Timothy was to give to others, and those others were to give to others still. |
| 1:29.3 | Thereby, underscoring for us, Paul's great concern that the message of the gospel would |
| 1:34.6 | be both proclaimed and preserved in the generations to come. |
| 1:40.0 | And Paul has provided three very straightforward pictures in order to illustrate his point. |
| 1:47.9 | First of all, in verse 3 and 4, the soldier, then in verse 5, the athlete, and then in verse 6, |
| 1:57.6 | the farmer. And there's going to be three more to follow. Later on in our studies, |
| 2:02.5 | we will notice that he is reminding us of the place of the workman, of the vessel, and of the |
| 2:09.5 | servant. And right in the middle of all of that, he does what I've been known to do, |
| 2:15.5 | and that is he quotes a hymn. At least I take it to be a hymn, |
| 2:19.6 | or a credo statement. And these three verses that are before us are the last of five statements |
| 2:27.7 | that you find in the pastoral epistles, that is in First and Second Timothy and Titus, |
| 2:33.2 | that are introduced by the phrase, |
| 2:35.9 | Ho, Logos, Pistos. Logos being the word, and pistos being that which is trustworthy or reliable. |
