In the United States, today is Veterans Day.

I love this day because it gives me a chance to give my late grandfather a spiritual hug

of sorts.

My grandfather was a fighter pilot during World War II.

He flew the split-tailed devil, the P-38, in over 100 missions during the Pacific

Theater.

My grandfather never talked about the war, and if you ever saw him on the street, you'd

never know that he was such a brave badass when this country needed him the most.

Reminds me of a story that I read recently about Ben Overstreet, in 1949 Ben was starting

his senior year of high school.

He wanted to play football, problem was he never played before, and a bigger problem

was that he was five foot, five, and 105 pounds soaking wet, oh, and he was slow.

Still, Ben made the team, but not as a player, as the water boy, or as the coach titled

it, the Equipment Manager.

And Ben played full out.

He cheered the other boys enthusiastically, he made sure that they were always well-hydrated.

After graduating high school, Ben attended the University of Florida for a year, only

a year because he ran out of money, being the son of an auto mechanic and all.

The Air Force, though, was offering $75 a month food and shelter, so Ben signed up for
