Hi, they're welcome along to this week's Sunday Supplement Podcast with me, Vicky Gommasal

and the Assistant Editor of the Muradaran Lewis. The Sunday Times football correspondent

Jonathan Northcroft joined us this week as we pay tribute to the football giants

Sir Bobby Chalton who passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 86. We'll look back

on what was a truly remarkable career following the Munich disaster in 1958. Not only did he

raise the World Cup in 1966 with England but he became an integral part of the rebuilding

process for Manchester United as they won the European Cup in 1968.

It is a sad morning but I think what we want to do here today is reflect on the life of

Sir Bobby Chalton because it's quite remarkable. He is an England and Manchester United legend,

there's no doubt about it. In your opinion though Jonathan, will he be remembered as the

greatest England player perhaps of all time?

I think he will be, I mean at times like this the tributes that come in are often maybe

slightly gilded but in Bobby's case I don't think anything could be exaggerated. I mean

it was an epic football career that did everything at club level and everything international

level. Those who saw and played with him said he was always said he was the central figure,

the heartbeat, the greatest talent and I think the longevity of that career, the story of

that career rebuilding in his life after Munich and helping Manchester United be reborn.
