Summary

This week we chat about the famous southern live oak (Quercus virginiana) of the southeastern United States. A tree that has had many different identities, we discuss how this tree was the base of naval power during the height of colonialism and beyond, and how it's both gorgeous yet also fraught with imagery of a sordid past.

0:47.4	That's what people are saying. I would say so. However, every time I hear your accent,
0:50.9	it always for some reason reminds me of a Kentucky accent.
0:53.7	You know what it is? It's, uh, like five different Southern accents mixed together in my brain.
0:59.3	Exactly. It also, I can hear that, I guess, is what I'm saying.
1:02.5	Yeah. I'm, I'm worldly. You are. You really are your Southern worldly.
1:05.8	Yeah. My little pocket of sunshine, my little pocket of sunshine,
1:10.3	little corner of the world. Um, Casey, uh, we're speaking in this way because today,
1:17.4	we're talking about a, uh, a tree.
1:20.8	Uh, we are talking about a tree in the tree speaks this way.
1:23.2	So we wanted to make sure that we can communicate on the trees level with the tree.
