The plant doesn't just automatically sprout up and here's a full-grown tree producing apples.

No, it takes time.

And did you know that most of the growth, I'll probably deal with this more tomorrow, but most of the growth of a seed takes place underground.

I learned when I was a kid, it my job they told me that I had to pull up we lived in a

place that had 23 pecan trees we our house was in a pecan orchard. Some people call it pecan. We called it pecan.

pecan is what you used if you didn't want to go all the way out to the outhouse.

And that. I just can't call those things that you eat a pecan, but anyway,

we call them pecans. And these pecans would fall off the tree and they would get into the ground and my parents told me

says you pull those things up, you know, before they start growing.

And being a typical kid, I didn't want to spend my time going

around pulling up these pecan trees. So I'd wait until they got a foot tall or

something and my parents could see them as they drove in and then they'd tell me you got to go pull up that tree.

And I learned that if you wait until a pecan tree's got a foot of growth, it's got three feet

of roots underground. If they're just a little tiny, you can just pull them up and they come

right up. But man, you get one that's a foot tall, it's got three foot of root and you got to go get

a shovel or something to dig it up.

And that's the way that a seed is.

The majority of the growth is underground.

If you see a tree that's 100 foot tall, I guarantee you it's got more than 100 feet of roots depending on the type of tree
