Summary

The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Episode 38 At the heart of the "Woke" (Critical Social Justice) movement is the abuse of language, which is perpetrated in order to abuse power. Therefore, at the heart of the New Discourses project is a Critical Social Justice Encyclopedia, Translations from the Wokish (https://newdiscourses.com/translations-from-the-wokish/), that documents these abuses and helps to decode them so that everyday people won't be taken in by them. One of the projects taken up by James Lindsay and the New Discourses team with that Encyclopedia is to document the theoretical underpinnings of the Critical Social Justice ideology so that people can understand not just the words but also why they are given the particular distorted meanings they have. In line with that, and because it is the heart of the "Woke" (Critical Social Justice) movement is the concept of Neo-Marxism, which is the school of thought brought to the world by (communist) people like György Lukács, Antonio Gramsci (https://newdiscourses.com/2021/01/antonio-gramsci-cultural-marxism-wokeness-leninism/), Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno, Herbert Marcuse (https://newdiscourses.com/2021/01/how-not-to-resolve-the-paradox-of-tolerance/), and Angela Davis. It's almost impossible to understand the Woke ideology without understanding this precursor. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, join James Lindsay as he reads through and adds nuance and detail to the relevant "neo-Marxism" entry (https://newdiscourses.com/tftw-neo-marxism/) in his Critical Social Justice Encyclopedia so that you can better understand where Wokeness comes from and how it thinks and operates. Hey everyone, you are listening to The New Discuses Podcast. I am James Lindsay. I'm

0:24.4

going to do something a little bit different today.

0:27.4

For those of you who are big fans and supporters of New Discuses, you will of course know that

0:33.6

I have been creating a encyclopedia translations from the Wokish, I called it, leaning on the

0:40.2

idea of translations from the Elvish from J.R. Tolkien, trying to be cute, I guess. The

0:48.7

point of this encyclopedia, which is housed on New Discuses, is specifically to show the

0:55.4

abuses of language that are inherent in the abuses of power, that the Wok or critical social

1:00.2

justice movement uses. And so there are lots of entries on there. I think there are over 500,

1:06.9

maybe almost 600, that I intend to do by some point or another. And I've done well over

1:13.6

100, probably over 150 so far. And I've never really pointed directly at the encyclopedia

1:21.2

here on the podcast before. But I think that the topic of my most recent entry is so important to

1:28.5

understand given what's going on in the world today with the Wok movement that I actually want to

1:34.7

just read with my own commentary added and probably discovery of a few typos. The newest entry

1:42.0

on the social justice encyclopedia that I'm keeping on new discourses should say critical social

1:47.0

justice encyclopedia, which is for neo-Marxism. The concept of neo-Marxism has to be understood

1:53.7

because now we have the big debate entering the public consciousness is Wokeness or is critical

2:00.8

race theory, Marxism. And we've had an increasing number of videos surfacing, for example, where we

2:07.9

do have people, for example, the Black Lives Matter founder Patrice Collours, if I've said that

2:15.9

correctly, came out and a year ago or so and said proudly that they're trained Marxists and

2:21.3

another video that surfaced recently through some excellent investigative reporting and digging.

We see her proud of the fact that her work has been compared to Mao's little red book

and her own book, the forward that book is written by Angela Davis, who was the student of Herbert
