Today I'm excited to share with you a story about a duck.

Bet you weren't expecting that today, were you?

This duck's story, it's simple, but it's profound.

And I heard this years ago, and I still use it

in stories with my girlfriends, with my clients,

whenever they're interpreting a situation

as just an illustration of maybe looking

at things another way.

And the story goes a little something like this.

There is a duck sitting on the edge of a leg and he's very, very noisy,

quack, quack, loud, loud duck.

And one day someone walks past him and says,

oh my gosh, you love to sing, don't you? You are just always singing all morning long.

And then somebody else walks by and says, gosh, look at you little duck, you are always so hungry, always calling out for food.

And then somebody else walks by, another stranger to the duck and says,

Oh, duck, why are you so sad?

Why'd you always call out to us with your sadness?

How hard can it be on this lake?

And, let me tell you, the first person who assumed the duck was making music

was a musician. The second person who thought the duck

was hungry was a chef. And the third person who thought the duck was sad was a therapist? Let me ask you this. Who's
