In a recent story for the Salt Lake Tribune, the reporter Peggy Fletcher Stack, exposed this growing climate

of unease and fear that has settled among the faculty at Brigham Young University.

At the center of all of this is a man named Clark Gilbert. He's the Commissioner of Education

When I got a text from a friend who had heard Clark Gilbert give a presentation to a Salt Lake City dinner group.

This group included lots of prominent Salt Lake Latter-day Saints. Former mission presidents, 70, historians, scholars.

And Clark Gilbert gave this presentation, talking about BYU,

and laid out, among other things, these four categories of faculty.

Those who fully support church doctrine and bring spirituality into the classroom. Those who mostly support, but not enough for Mr. Gilbert. Those who have

some questions. And the fourth category was, quote, open foes.
