Summary

This week we’re back with the final episode from series two of A Space I Love.

Today Head of Historic Buildings Dan Jackson takes us into a space that for him, sums up what Hampton Court Palace is all about, the hidden east wall of the Chapel Royal.

Tucked away for 400 years, this jigsaw puzzle of a space reveals a lot about the history of this extraordinary palace, as well as its mysteries.

If you want to see this space when visiting Hampton Court Palace, it is on the Georgian Story route. Our Palace Hosts are easy to spot in red coats and will be able to direct you.

historic buildings here at Historic Royal Palaces. I look after a team of building curators and

1:25.3

archaeologists and we make sure that anything that happens at

historical palaces is done so with the setting and significance of the buildings and being taken

1:34.4

into account. So whether that's a new shelf in a bathroom or a new roof on a great hall, my team

1:40.2

will do lots of research into the building that's being affected and then work with our

1:45.3

surveyors and our conservation team to make sure that all of that work happens in the

1:49.7

most appropriate way so now let's walk down tennis court lane heading towards the

1:54.3

tennis court but we're going to take a right and make our way into one of the

1:57.8

back doors of the palace to find our destination.

2:03.6

So we've now come into the palace and we're open to the public today so you might hear

2:12.1

people having a terribly nice time in the background and I've actually just brought us to the front door to the

Chapel Royal here at Hampton Court. The Chapel Royal is one of the most important buildings,
