I'm Kelly Raspberry Evans without my husband and podcast co-host Alan, but he will be joining us in a little bit. A train

is not in the house, but he is on the road. He has made the last minute decision to go ahead and

go to Sturgis for a motorcycle week that's going on up there. He's going to be hanging out with

our very good friend, Sergeant Patrick

Sowers from Operation Once in a Lifetime and helping him with the booth up there. It's a big fundraiser

for Operation Once in a Lifetime, which if you've listened to our podcast for any amount of time,

you're familiar. But for those of you who may be new, Operation Once in a Lifetime is an organization that grants

wishes and not just like fantasy wishes, but necessary wishes for these families.

I first got to know Patrick Sowers many years ago when he approached me about doing a betting

drive because I found out that are members of the military who come home

from serving overseas and they go to the barracks here in the United States, there are no

bed sheets for them and no pillows. And I was really shocked and horrified, honestly. I mean,

that just doesn't make any sense. It doesn't compute. But that's how I first came to know

Patrick.

And since then, I've learned about all the other wonderful things that Operation Once in a Lifetime does.

Every year, he takes a big group of veterans to Arlington National Cemetery.

He takes a lot of veterans to the memorial in New York City, the 9-11 Memorial. He helps,

you know, get adaptive housing, things like that. And a lot of times Patrick helps deal with

very troubled members of the military. Unfortunately, a lot of deaths by suicide from our military members.

So he counsels a lot. He just says so many wonderful things, and we're happy to support.
