Summary

I would like to focus on the brief but extremely powerful passage from the book of the prophet Jeremiah, which is our first reading for this weekend. It is taken from the seventeenth chapter of the prophet’s book, and the context is a fierce upbraiding that Jeremiah is giving for the idolatry of the people. What we have here is the pithy formula, the simple program, that ought to govern our spiritual lives at the most fundamental level.

think you'd get a good commentary but it's such a rich experience to go through

1:04.7

that book. So our past is today is a very brief one taken from the 17th chapter

1:10.6

of the Prophet's book. The context is a fierce upbreeding that Jeremiah is

1:17.3

giving for the idolatry of the people. You know, our word Jeremiah, you know,

1:21.9

someone gives a very strong and critical talk. Well, that's because Jeremiah is

1:27.0

kind of like that. He'll typically upgrade the people. They're beautiful

1:31.5

lyrical passages too in Jeremiah but he's kind of known for this tough, you know,

1:36.0

tough love approach. And he's going after, as I've often said, the principle sin

1:42.0

in the vision of the Bible, which is idolatry, that has to say, turning something

1:47.9

less than God into God. That's always the fundamental spiritual problem.

1:52.8

Only other spiritual problems and moral problems come from that one. So we hear that the people
