A Room with a View by E. M. Foster. Chapter 10, Cecil as a humorist, and Chapter 11 in Mrs.

Weiss's well-appointed flat.

In the previous part, Cecil was expressing his general dissatisfaction with the people of the

country after attending a garden party with Lucy and her mother.

An impromptu meeting with Harry Otway on the way home further irritated him, and he left with

Lucy through the woods. There, Cecil would express his dissatisfaction further, implying Lucy

lacked a sense of passion about him, with which Lucy claimed not to understand. The chapter

ends with Cecil requesting a first kiss, which he receives awkwardly, and only serves to bring

memories of George Emerson back to Lucy's mind. Before we begin tonight's story, let's get ourselves ready for sleep.
