My arm dangled out of the window, fingers pushing back against the evening breeze.

This was my favorite part of summer, riding along in Chad's truck, feeling the fresh, warm air.

On nights like this, there was no plan or agenda.

We would drive through the country hills into the sunset,

usually stopping near the woods,

so we could listen to the crickets and watch the fireflies light up around us.

Chad reached over and squeezed my thigh.

I looked at him and smiled, wishing it could always be like this,

wishing that college didn't have to start back up in just one month.

You've arrived at your destination, said Chad in an accent, mimicking the voice of the GPS.

He parked his truck off the road. The windows were still open, and a breeze wafted in.

Through the trees, we could see the last remnants of the sunset, a blend of pink and deep gold. The fireflies were already out, the flashes of light twinkling around us. You're not gone yet, and I already

miss you, said Chad sadly. I shook my head. No. We're not doing that. We're going to enjoy tonight.

Chad looked at me, his brown eyes scanning mine. I resisted the urge to reach out and

ruffle his shaggy blonde hair. I watched, feeling like everything was in slow motion,

as Chad reached out, and softly took my face in his hands. He leaned in, face at an angle,

and kissed me. An electric feeling sparked inside of me. It always felt like the first time,

like we had never kissed until that very moment. Our mouths opened against each others.

The truck filled with both the sound of crickets chirping and our soft moans.

When I pulled away, I watched as Chad pushed back the driver's seat of his truck.

He looked at me, and the expression on his face told me everything I needed to know.
