For some, the Christian life has been reduced to a one day a week church service experience,

and yet God, in His Word, teaches us that we are to walk with Him daily.

Today we look to God's Word to discover simple Bible principles that will help us as we live the daily Christian life. As a teenager, I took a certain verse and made it my life verse.

As a young man, it helped me so very much.

It was 1 Timothy chapter 4, verse number 12,

where the Bible says, let no man despise thy youth,

but be thou an example of the believers,

in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

After all these years, I can say to you, that's not just a verse

for youth. That's a verse for all of life. God wants all of us to be examples of the believers,

in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. It was several years later

after adopting this verse as my life verse,

that I realized the larger context of this verse.

You see, one verse of Scripture is powerful, but every text has a context,

and every verse is connected to every other verse around it.

1 Timothy chapter 4 and verse number 12 is in the context of Paul saying to Timothy, give attention to the Word of God.

As a matter of fact, in verse 6, he talks about a good minister being nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine.

There's a nourishing work that the Word of God does in us.

It strengthens us. It sustains us. It provides sustenance for our spiritual health and well-being. We need the Word of God.
