It's that time.

Time, time, time.

Lock and load.

The Michael Vary show is on the air.

Every four years we have a presidential election.

Every two years, presidential years, and midterms,

we have congressional elections for the House of Representatives.

And, of course, the Senate senators are up every six years on a rotating basis

so that about a third of the senators are up every two years,

making up the 100-body Senate and the 450-body House of Representatives.

But the big prize is the presidency, the head of the executive branch,

the chief executive, the commander-in-chief of the military.

Donald Trump was the nominee in the most hotly contested Republican primary ever in 2016.

He was, by affirmation, as the sitting president, the nominee in 2020.

And now, 2024, Trump announced he's running.

Ron DeSantis yesterday made official what we've known for some time that he, too, is running.

And they're the only two candidates that matter.

But they're not the only two candidates that are in the race.

Or should I say, they're the only two candidates that can win the nomination.

But they're not the only two candidates that matter.

Because Nicky Haley and Tim Scott, and the Vettrama Swamy, and Mike Pence, and Chris Christie,

all of those candidates, they don't hurt Trump.
