A new term and a new associate justice on the Supreme Court this week.

If you have a neutral plan and someone comes in and upsets it to racially gerrymandered

in favor of one racial group, well necessarily you're going to be harming some other group

on account of race.

Why are you saying it's a neutral plan council?

I don't understand the jingles preconditions are designed to establish that there may actually

be race discrimination working in this particular situation.

Justice Katangi Brown Jackson wasted no time participating in oral arguments.

Jackson is the first black woman to serve on the court, replacing Justice Stephen Breyer.

What you heard was Jackson pushing back against Alabama solicitor general Edmund LeCurr

in oral arguments in a voting rights case this week.

Jackson points out that racial discrimination has already been baked in where congressional

lines are being drawn through segregated housing.

These are really tough things to establish and collectively they show that it's not neutral

the situation that we are approaching in this situation.

We're talking about a situation in which race has already infused the voting system.

We'll have more moments from inside the court throughout this hour.
