So essentially for Gerard, it's kind of like Christianity is not a solution, it's not a social

solution, it's not a political solution, but it does give us the material to struggle against

the violence of our age, the hatred and coverage

lessness in my medic rivalry of the age that right now just takes on truly

apocalyptic characteristics and kind of levels.

If this kind of conversion was really taking place,

if people were really converting to this Christianity,

the demands that would make on the changes to our social order would be so

fundamental.

Revolutionary. How could you have prisons? How could you have prisons? There's no way you could

have prisons as they exist now.

But of course the people who are the loudest Christians

in this country are people who think not only

do we need prisons, we need more prisons.

And the solution to every visible sign

of the rot in our social order is more punishment,

more warehousing of the poor and sick.

That's why I think, like it sounds stupid to say oh well if everybody would just

convert to Christianity all of our problems would go away it's not converting to

Christianity as we would understand that in the world right now. It's converting to

something really truly radical and mad. A madness because what is mad is

defined by what is normal in our society and what is normal in our society
