my friends. Blake Brewer's dad, his name is Larry Brewer, was larger than life. The six foot three,

230-pound man played football in college and was drafted by the Atlantic Falcons. He eventually hung up

the cleats. He secured a more typical career, and he started a family. As work intensified and

his family expanded, one thing that remained critically important to Larry was involvement in his

children's lives. Blake, one of his sons, never questioned his dad's love.

His father exuded love in the way he invested individualized time in each child,

how he coached their teams and how he took delight in their successes.

After Blake's freshman year in college, the family took a special once-in-a-lifetime trip to Hawaii.

Upon arriving, they checked into their hotel room, they dropped their bags, they grabbed their swimsuits,

and they swam together as a family in the Pacific Ocean.

Blake remembers it being one of the most remarkable, one of the most special times of his entire life.

As the family prepared to return to their room, Blake and his dad decided to go for one more swim before heading in for the day.

What had previously been a very faint undercurrent had become a far more intense one.

Ultimately, it drew both dad and son away from the beach and toward a rock formation.

Larry, though extraordinarily athletic, was unable to swim away from the formation. He began yelling for help,

and by the time his son and a nearby snorkel were able to retrieve him and return to shore,

he was unresponsive. Immediately, upon dragging Larry under the beach, a lifeguard began CPR.
