Summary

This week the three not-quite-amigos are talking about a trio of very special victories at the weekend. Aaron Rai becomes England's first (US) PGA Champion in over 100 years and we hear from Wolverhampton's finest on a life-changing victory, which he did with one of the great major final round performances. Meanwhile Lottie Woad wins on the LPGA Tour and Leonie Harm takes victory on the LET in Germany in what is a remarkable life story. There's plenty of time for other chat as well - Eddie's in Belgium preparing to get back out competing, the standard of Welsh golf comes under the spotlight and Andrew shows his very selective memory in predicting winners.

What a time to be alive for, what a time to be arrive.

Amazing weekend in golf.

Second major, the men's season, the PGA Championship and a British

winner, an English winner, an incredible story, another English winner in the LPGA this weekend.

So much to talk about, so much to get into. This could be a long one. So we'll get straight into it

0:50.9

with our regular special guest, Ian Carter, who's a man on the ground in Arunnamink, Philadelphia. How are you, Ian?

0:58.0

I'm all right, thank you, Andrew. First things first, I'm in my hotel room,

1:02.0

and the air conditioning is seriously, seriously loud. So I have set the temperature at 71 degrees Fahrenheit, which I think is where it will

1:13.4

stay stable. And so it shouldn't kick in. But if you suddenly hear a hurricane wind up in the

1:20.1

background, you'll know what it is. Okay. It's the machine that's next to me.

1:24.6

Oh, much to talk about your journey. Because we didn't do the nightly pods for various reasons, which we might get into, or we might not. But Eddie Peppel has some sort of wicker work on the wall behind him. You are in Belgium, Eddie? I'm in Antwerp, yeah, staying at a accommodation. I've stayed out a couple of times before, actually, centre of town. A little way away from the golf course, but very nice and I quite like Antwerp, some nice restaurants, and Jen's joining me on Wednesday, so back in the centre of town, I like it here. So one of the reasons we didn't do a pod late last night, well, I think the main reason was that by the time Ian spoke to Aaron Rye, the great Aaron Rye, now PJ

champion, it would have been, I don't know, it'd have been about half-past one in the morning. And Eddie, UK time, that is. I mean, that would have been excessive if that was American time. But by then, Eddie, you were just about getting up to drive to Belgium, wouldn't you? Well, not quite, but I was going up at five. I was on the road before six, so yeah, I literally got in my hotel 10 minutes ago. I had to go straight to the golf club at Rink then and pick up a couple of putters. I putted for half an hour, deciding which of the two I want to use. And then came straight here to record. So it's been a busy day for me, but I'm not going to complain. Do children clamber around you, like seagulls around a troller now? Just asking you for stuff. I don't think the words got out just yet. No, it will do. We've got a huge junior listenership to the pod. So did you watch some of the golf last night? I mean, did because he was commentating. We got into it. But did. I watched until about 11 o'clock every night as it happened. So by that point Aaron had taken the lead. I think he was on about the 14th hole. And I decided to go to bed for a couple of reasons, primarily because I was up early, but secondary to that, I actually wasn't that enthralled by it. Taking nothing away from Aaron was delighted

3:13.6

to see him win, hugely impressive as we'll get into. But I've got to say, I found the final round

3:18.5

to be quite tedious as a watch, whereas I didn't feel that way earlier on in the week, certainly

3:22.7

so... Eddie's hot take. I mean, there is an element to that, Ian. It was a... Whereas I didn't feel that way earlier on in the week, certainly so won.

3:25.6

Eddie's hot take.

3:27.9

I mean, there is an element to that, Ian.

3:30.7

It was a strange major championship, wasn't it?

3:31.8

It was.

3:37.9

I found myself likening it to, and you can correct me if I'm wrong here, Andrew,

3:43.3

because the analogy I would take is like a 10,000 metre race where the entire field almost, you know, there'll be a few stragglers who can't keep up with the pace,
