Welcome to another episode of Lurie Breaks It Down, a podcast where we dig deeply to connect the dots on the issues that shape our world.

I'm Lurie Daniel Favors, author, activist, attorney, and the host of the Lurie Daniel Favors show on Sirius XM's Urban View, Channel 126. If you like what you're about to hear, go ahead and give us five stars and then tell everybody that you know. And if you don't like it, just, child, keep it to yourself and pray our strength. Okay, thank you so much. Also, don't forget to check out my YouTube page, Lurie Daniel Favor's Media, where you should subscribe, like, and share because then you'll get notified when I post videos from my show, which I do just about every single day and when I go live with my YouTube audience. So today is Friday, September the 12th, which means yesterday was Thursday, September

0:54.8

the 11th. Now, traditionally in these United States, we have a fairly simple process for

1:00.0

September 11th. All of the news media dedicates itself to covering the story of what happened.

1:05.6

And the names are sometimes shown being read, sometimes not. But it's always sort of treated

1:10.0

as the most important

1:12.1

thing in the news at the moment. And it's been like that for the past 23 years. This is the 24th year

1:19.8

of the horrific tragedy that took place on September 11th. But on this 24th year, things were very

1:40.8

part of the reason why the September 11th commemoration or acknowledgement, perhaps, is a better word,

1:47.4

just didn't go off the way it usually does.

1:49.1

And I think that's problematic for a whole host of reasons.

1:51.8

Not because I'm saying we should spend our time engaging in memories of September 11th as if that were the only tragedy to ever strike the planet.

1:59.6

I recognize that there's a lot of tensions with that. I also recognize that there are a lot of people in my own world and community

2:04.9

that suffered as a result of what happened on September 11th. So it's with balance that I always

2:09.6

try to approach this topic. But something was very different on the 24th edition of the September 11th

2:16.1

commemoration. Now, I got a caller yesterday by the name of

2:19.7

Adam. Hi, Adam. Shout out to Adam from South Dakota. And Adam from South Dakota, in fact, just by

2:24.4

way of information, you could actually hear the call, the entire call between myself and Adam

2:28.6

from South Dakota on my YouTube page. And I posted it there because I think it's important
