Lewis was the most important apologist of the 20th century,

and his writings really are prescient in a lot of ways.

They anticipate all kinds of developments that have occurred in the culture,

that I'm shocked in a lot of ways that he saw them coming 80 years ago.

He's also a person who intellectually inhabited a world that most people have forgotten,

but still influences our world in many subtle and unappreciated ways.

As a figure who is immersed in the history of Christian thought and also classical thought.

He has a way of connecting things and important issues,

I think unparalleled, even by some of the most brilliant academic theologians.

If we lose Lewis, we lose one of those bridges to the past that not only helps us understand the past, but I understand

a wrong moment.

And in particular, his way of understanding the beauty of all things at the heart of reality,

and that the glory of God, if you will, can be tasted and touched through Christ, and this can be a continuous thing that draws our desires more fully into God in God's life.

Out of ourselves and into Christ, we must go.
