Hey, it's West, the creator of Deviltown.

I'm sorry it's been a long time since you heard from me.

Right after the last episode came out,

the podcast industry went through a ton of changes,

and Deviltown has been on hold ever since. I've never stopped pushing to bring the show back and with any luck that'll happen pretty soon.

In the meantime I want to tell you about another case that started as a side project and turned into an obsession.

A little over a year ago, a writer named Carol Dawson reached out and told me about an unsolved

murder in her hometown, Corsicana, Texas.

Carol introduced me to the name Shelly Watkins,

a young mom who was found dead in the Trinity River in 1993.

A lot of people around Corsicana think they know who killed Shelly, but they're too afraid to come forward.

The case has been on hold for the last 30 years.

That's where Carol and I come in.

We've created a new podcast to investigate the awful way Shelly was killed and frankly that outrageous reason this case fell apart.

What is it about that that has stuck with you the most? Oh, the image of her body.

I cannot get that image out of my head.

I keep seeing the river at dusk in that twilight

gloom. I hear crickets chirping. I hear you know the natural river sounds and and and they would not be loud.

And I see these guys fishing and I keep seeing through their eyes

...
